We pride ourselves on being one of the best pubs in the South Downs, offering exquisite cuisine to suit everybody’s dietary needs. Our chefs work closely with local suppliers and strive to produce high-quality meals to each of our guests, from our varied, extensive menu.

With a wide range of beers, wines and spirits on offer, whatever your poison might be we have something you’ll love. Because we are a freehouse, we have no constraints imposed by a brewery and are able to offer real ales, chosen by our locals. These are changed and added to according to demand, meaning we’ll always have something you love in-house. With a selection of Lagers, Guinness and Cider also available on draught, as well as an extensive wine cellar, there’s bound to be a drink to whet your appetite.

FRESH LOCAL CUISINE

Locally sourced ingredients from Sussex farmers

We pride ourselves on using local produce wherever possible and our menus regularly change to incorporate seasonal availability throughout the year. One of our specialities is fresh fish from the local South coast markets and during the summer this includes lobsters and crab, which remain firm favourites among our customers. Throughout the colder winter months we focus on offering locally sourced game such as pheasant, partridge, pigeon and venison.

Each of these meals is lovingly prepared by our experienced chefs and brothers, Matthew and Adrian Diaper, who have extensive local knowledge and a passion for creating great dishes from excellent ingredients.

Suitable for your events

During the summer, we have an outside terrace which is in full sunlight throughout the day, offering a tranquil setting with incredible views over the River Rother. We have also recently added an outside cooking area, where we’re delighted to offer frequent BBQ’s, Paellas, Hog Roasts and Lamb Roasts with many other culinary delights just waiting to be experienced! We can even use this area for outside parties throughout the warmer months and often have live music played on a Sunday evening, for everybody to enjoy.
